Water management was critical in the design of this small residential backyard in Brooklyn, New York. Gravel surfaces allow for stormwater to infiltrate into the soil, and into the subsurface dry-wells when the soil becomes saturated. Local bluestone combines in patterns to create gathering spaces. Native pollinator species attract insects and add dramatic touches of color throughout the seasons. The garden was divided in two levels to allow for 2 apartments to use the backyard simultaneously, with some privacy. A continuous wooden bench on the upper level sets up the space for a great get together spot.
