PRINCETON UNIVERSITY CAMPUS
Can landscapes be a bridge between old and new?
The Princeton University campus is undergoing enormous changes. The university is growing, and countless new buildings are being constructed to house new departments and student groups. Among these are Lake Campus Graduate Housing, Schmidt Hall School for Computer Science, ES and SEAS School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, and more. The historic campus is renowned for its beautiful gothic architecture set in a dramatic topographic landscape at the foot of Lake Carnegie. Field Operations was brought on to create a sense of place amidst the newly constructed buildings, allowing for continuity between the historic campus and its new architecture. Working with many different consultants, we developed master plans, made corridor recommendations, designed through all phases and oversaw construction implementation.

LAKE CAMPUS
Lake Campus is a major expansion of the Princeton University campus, across the bridge from Lake Carnegie. The program was multifaceted, and included graduate student housing, softball/baseball stadiums, a racquet center, solar arrays, campus buildings and a series of pathways through the pastoral New Jersey landscape. The site’s adjacency to the Delaware and Raritan Canal State Park made for difficult environmental reviews, but the design team was sensitive to the wetland and riparian corridor ecosystem. Field Operations collaborated with Skidmore, Owings, Merrill (SOM) Sasaki, Mithun, Langen and other architects and consultants in the realization of the overall design.
