THE HIGHLINE @ WESTERN

How does a temporary landscape design become permanent?

The project involved renovating the 10-year old portion of the High Line at the Western Railyards. Improvements included re-detailing and replacement of wood block furnishing, updated handrailings, cast-in-place paving, lighting design and install and new plantings. In close collaboration with Friends of the High Line, Piet Oudolf and other consultants, the project set the stage for the more permanent and all-season use of the final section of this iconic linear park. Given the many constraints of the site, the renovation was extremely technical, and construction tolerances were kept at an absolute minimum.
